Gaz Metan Medias - CFR Cluj 2-0 - June 11, 2009

Unfortunately, CFR lost their final match of the Liga 1 2008-2009 season. Using a team composed mostly of reserves, the loss was to be expected especially since the fixture had little meaning for either team. Overall, Medias were better and deserved to win. Their fate is not yet sealed, though. Medias await FC Arges' relegation court decision to find out for certain whether they will play in Liga 1 next year as well. As for Cluj, the match did not really matter, as Conceicao chose to rest his key players for the cup final against Timisoara on the 13th.

Medias (4-5-1): Vitca - Nohai, Hoban, Markovici, Buican (Buzean 62') - Vidakovici (R. Zaharia 74'), Cr. Todea, Kubala, Eric de Oliveira, Dudita (Pirvulescu 18') - Bud

CFR (4-2-3-1): Stancioiu - Vieira (Panin 55'), Galiassi, Muresan, Viana - A. Leao, Flores (Y. Kone 60') - Dubarbier, Frangipane, Deac - D. Ruiz (Dani 71')

The first half was very dull. Both teams had several half-chances, but nothing of note really happened. In the second half, Medias dominated. They created many chances and scored twice through Bud and Eric de Oliveira, while CFR failed to respond at all. Overall, it's a poor way to end the season and this loss will surely fail to boost the players' morale before the decisive cup final against Timisoara.

Player-by-Player Analysis:

Stancioiu 4: He wrongly came off his line far too many times and his poor clearance led to the second goal.

Vieira 5: He tried to stop the Medias attacks, but he had some trouble since Galiassi and Muresan were slow to help him. 

Muresan 5: He clearly is not a center-back. He missed several easy headers and he is too clumsy.

Galiassi 4.5: He let Bud off his marking leading to the first goal. Otherwise, he was easily overwhelmed by the home team's attacks.

Viana 5: Though he did not make any major mistakes, Viana is probably not a player who can perform at this level.

Andre Leao 4: He could not block the opposing attacks. To top it all off, he "earned" a red in the second half.

Flores 5.5: Blocked Medias' attacks in midfield during the first half well enough, but did nothing more than that. 

Dubarbier 5: Had several bright incursions, but he was unsuccessful overall.

Frangipane 5: He was dangerous on several occasions, but his shots were inaccurate and his passes were nothing amazing.

Deac 6: CFR's best player. He ran up and down the pitch, recovering loose balls and creating passing plays. Unfortunately for him, his teammates were less inspired. 

Ruiz 4: He only touched the ball several times.

Substitutes:

Panin 5: He was much less offensive than usual and did not provide much security in the back.

Y. Kone 4: Same as Ruiz; useless.

Dani 4.5: Conceicao attempted to tie the game up in the second half, but Dani's introduction did not result in any defensive or offensive flair.
