CFR Wins First Two Friendlies in Antalya

CFR 1907 has snatched victory in both friendly fixtures played so far this winter break. On January 18, CFR played the Dnepr Dnepropetrovsk reserves defeating the Ukrainians 1-0. Ciprian Deac scored the only goal of the match directly off a free kick. Otherwise, CFR had countless chances and were clearly the better team.

The second opponent of the year was Shenhua Shanghai from China. Cadu pulled off the first goal from a corner kick, while Pereira doubled CFR's advantage. Although the Chinese managed to pull one back, Cluj held on and won 2-1.

Three New Footballers Arrive

Besides Veljovici, three further footballers have been traded to CFR this winter break: Center-back Dario Flores, left-back Agustin Viana and playmaker Paolo Frangipane. Flores and Viana both hail from Uruguay and their previous clubs are River Plate Montevideo and CS Bella Vista, respectively. Frangipane is from Argentina and comes from Club Athletico Belgrano, who currently play in the second tier of Argentine football. All three players hope to earn a spot on the starting eleven, but the competition is extreme, so they'll have to work hard.

Jindra is Cluj's New Coach, Uhrin will be the Team's Technical Consultant

Czech coach, Ales Jindra, is now the new coach of CFR 1907. He replaces Maurizio Trombetta whose domestic results have greatly varied. However, the real power will lie with Dusan Uhrin Jr., whose move from Timisoara this winter caused much controversy. Officially, Uhrin is Cluj's "technical consultant". However, it is obvious that he will be the one pulling the strings behind the team's performance. In addition, Alin Minteuan has retired at the age of 32 due to a recurring knee injury and will take the position of assistant coach at Cluj. Horea Carlan will continue to be the goalkeepers' coach.

Ambrus to Ariesul Turda, Curileac to Alba-Iulia, Vitinha to CS Otopeni, Oberman to Cordoba

Portuguese left-back, Vitinha, has been loaned until the summer to CS Otopeni, who currently sit in 17th in Liga 1. Goalkeeper Marius Curileac has also been loaned until June to second league side Apulum Alba-Iulia. At Alba-Iulia he will join former teammate, Lacine Camara, who was already sent to Apulum last summer. Valer Ambrus has also been sent to Liga II club Ariesul Turda until June as well. Lastly, Gustavo Oberman has not performed as expected this autumn, so he will be departing permanently for Cordoba in Spain this winter.
